So, over the past few weeks (or maybe even months) my students have been working on a research project. We did this for their writing class but also incorporated Science as well as Social Studies by doing it on giraffes (living creatures) and talking about geographic location. My mentor started this research project during the two weeks that I had summer courses and was not in the classroom. When I got back I was so happy to see their progress and all that they had learned. I pulled some non-fiction books about giraffes from our school library. I wanted to use these in order to show students where giraffes live in Africa and also how to distinguish between different types of giraffes by looking at their spots. I never even knew myself that there were different types of giraffes and that their patterns can be so different.
This summer I took a class called Creative Experiences. In this class we learned how to integrate all forms of art, visual art, dancing, movement, and music. The lesson plan that is attached was a collaboration between two other students and I. We worked with four different types of art to create a lesson plan that taught students not just about math but Picasso as well. I hope you enjoy!
The following lesson plan is one that I implemented spare of the moment. I found a read-aloud The Rainbow Fish book in another classroom and my collaboration teacher asked me if I wanted to start a lesson using that book within the next half hour. Of course I agreed! But, I was also so hesitant.
